How to start using your bank account

Congratulation on opening NMB bank account; here are the things you should consider after opening a bank account

Secure your PIN – do not share your PIN with a friend, colleague or even a bank officer

A PIN is 4 digits security code that you set when opening the account.

There are two types of PIN,

  1. ATM card PIN – a 4-digit number that you require for transactions at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM machine) or this PIN can be used when making purchases on Point of Sale machine at a convenient store.
  2. Mobile Banking PIN also known as NMB Mkononi PIN, is a 4-digit PIN used to access and operate your NMB mkononi. NMB Mkononi service or mobile banking is accessible via USSD *150*66# or by downloading NMB Mkononi App in play store or APP store.
  3. How to know your bank account number
    1. Written on your ATM card – it’s 11 numbers which appear on the front of your ATM card
    2. Your account number is also appears when your login to your NMB Mkononi APP or checking your balance on NMB Mkononi USSD *150*66#.

  3. Card number - The card number is one of the most important parts of your card. It identifies your account with the card issuer, and those are the 16 digits you need to provide when making purchases online or by phone
  4. Card holder’s name – your name or sometimes it contains 11 digits which represent your bank account number
  5. Expiration date – shows month and year on format month/year; expired card replaced at the bank branch without cost.
  6. Payment network – MasterCard logo; this shows your card is accepted worldwide and to ATM machines or POS machines of other local or international bank with

 

  1. Magnetic stripe - magnetic technology that allows personal information to be read when swept through a card reader; this is legacy technology
  2. Signature area - A signature strip is an area on the back of a card coated with a white or gray material that holds ink. Imprinted above it are words to the effect of “Authorized signature, Not valid unless signed.” Some people write “Show ID” in place of their signature, in an effort to discourage unauthorized use
  3. Hologram -  enables you to do payment processing in a more secure manner; This represents a valid card and is a sign that the card is legal
